An NFC business card looks like a regular card, but it has a small chip inside. When you hold it near someone's phone, the phone opens your digital business card. No app, no typing, no paper running out.

This guide explains how NFC cards work, what makes the Zolu Card different and what to do if you lose one.

What is an NFC business card?

NFC (near-field communication) is the same short-range technology phones use for contactless payments. An NFC business card stores a link in its chip. When a phone comes within a few centimeters, it reads that link and opens it in the browser.

The card itself doesn't hold your contact details: it holds a link to your digital business card. That's why you can change your details without replacing the card.

How a tap works, step by step

  1. You hold your card near the top or back of the other person's phone.
  2. Their phone shows a notification or opens the link right away.
  3. Your Zolu card opens at zolu.me/your-name.
  4. They tap Save contact, or leave their own details on your card if you turned on contact exchange.

Most recent iPhone and Android phones read NFC without installing anything. If a phone doesn't, the QR code printed on the Zolu Card opens the same page with the camera.

What makes the Zolu Card different

  • The chip never points straight at your page. Each Zolu Card has its own short code (zolu.me/t/…). Zolu decides where it goes, so you can change the destination anytime.
  • You choose what it opens. Your personal card, your business card, your Link page or one of your dynamic QR codes.
  • Turn it off if you lose it. In Zolu, open Cards → NFC cards and tap Turn off (lost). Anyone who taps it sees a notice instead of your card. Turn it back on if you find it.
  • Taps are counted. Your card's stats show how many visits came from an NFC tap.
  • Teams keep their cards. With team cards on the Business plan, if someone leaves the team, an owner or admin can pass their Zolu Card to another person on the team, with the same code.

How to activate a Zolu Card

  1. Tap the new card on your phone.
  2. Zolu asks you to sign in or create your free account.
  3. Choose which card or QR code it should open.

That's it: the next tap opens your page.

FAQ

Does the other person need an app?

No. Phones that read NFC open the link in the browser. For phones that don't, the QR code on the card does the same job.

Can I use one NFC card for my business and another for me?

Yes. Each Zolu Card has its own code, and each one can open a different card or QR code from your Zolu account.

What happens if I change jobs?

Edit your digital card or point the Zolu Card to a different one. The physical card stays the same.

Is my information stored on the chip?

No. The chip only has the short Zolu link. Your details live on your digital card, where you decide what's public.
