How to get more Google reviews with a QR code

Get your Google review link, turn it into a QR code you can track and change, and place it where happy customers actually see it, within Google's rules.

Many happy customers would leave a review if it took ten seconds. A QR code on the table, the counter or the receipt gets them there: they point their camera, the review box opens, and they write it while the experience is fresh.

This guide shows how to get your Google review link, turn it into a QR code you can track and change, where to place it, and what Google's rules allow.

Step 2: Turn it into a dynamic QR code

Google gives you a QR code, so why make another one? Because a dynamic QR code lets you:

  • Change where it goes without reprinting, if your link ever changes.
  • Count scans and see which day and hour people scan.
  • Use your brand: your colors, your logo and a frame that says "Leave us a review".

In Zolu, open Cards → QR codes, create a QR of the Google review type, paste your Google link and choose a design. Download it as PNG, SVG or a print-ready PDF. The free plan includes 3 dynamic QR codes. See QR codes in Zolu.

Step 3: Place it where people have a free minute

The best spot is where customers wait or relax, not where they're in a hurry:

  • Table tents in a restaurant or café, next to the menu QR.
  • The counter or the checkout area.
  • Receipts and bags.
  • Thank-you emails and the end of a chat with a customer.
  • The front door, for people who come back.

Google itself suggests sharing the link on receipts, in thank-you emails, at the end of a chat and on a printed sign in the store.

Step 4: Ask in a simple, honest way

A short line works better than a long explanation: "Enjoyed your visit? Scan to tell us on Google." Ask every customer, not only the ones who seem happy.

What Google doesn't allow

Google's policies for reviews on Maps are clear, and breaking them can get reviews removed:

  • No incentives. Don't offer discounts, free items or anything else in exchange for a review. Google calls these incentivized reviews and removes them.
  • Don't ask only happy customers. Google doesn't allow businesses to "selectively solicit positive reviews from customers" or discourage negative ones.
  • No reviews from people with a conflict of interest, such as employees, owners or family.
  • No fake or paid reviews.

Step 5: Reply to reviews

Google recommends replying: it shows customers their feedback matters. Thank people by name, keep it short and, if a review is negative, answer calmly and offer a way to talk. You reply from your Business Profile under Read reviews. Your business must be verified first.

FAQ

Do customers need a Google account to leave a review?

Yes. Google says customers must be signed in to a Google Account to leave a review.

Can I give a discount to people who leave a review?

No. Google doesn't allow incentives of any kind in exchange for reviews, even if the review is honest.

Why use a Zolu QR code instead of the one Google gives me?

You can change where it points without reprinting it, see how many people scan it, and design it with your brand and a frame that tells people what to do.
