A digital business card has one job: someone who met you for half a minute should know who you are, why to remember you and how to reach you. Everything on it should help with that. Here's what to include, what to skip and three short examples.

The 7 things every digital card needs

  1. A clear photo or logo. People remember faces. For a business, use your logo on a clean background.
  2. Your name, exactly as people say it. "Emma Brooks", not "E. M. Brooks".
  3. One line about what you do. Plain words: "Real estate agent in Charlotte" or "Coffee and pastries in South End". Skip internal titles nobody understands.
  4. One or two ways to contact you that you actually answer. Phone, email or WhatsApp. If you never check email, don't put it first.
  5. A Save contact button. It's the reason the card exists: one tap and you're in their phone. In Zolu it's there by default, with your photo.
  6. Your three most useful links. Website, LinkedIn, Instagram, portfolio or booking page. Pick by what the person will want next, not by what you have.
  7. One main action. "Book a call", "See our menu", "Get directions". Make it the most visible button.

What to leave off

  • Every social network you have. Five icons nobody clicks look like noise.
  • Long bios. Two sentences are enough; the link to your website can say the rest.
  • Personal details you don't need to share. Your home address or a private phone number. In Zolu you decide which fields are public, and the rest stays private.
  • Outdated information. The advantage of a digital card is that it's always current. Check it whenever something changes.

Three short examples

A real estate agent

Photo, "Emma Brooks · Real estate agent in Charlotte", buttons for call and WhatsApp, links to her listings, her reviews and her Instagram, and a main button "Book a showing". She turns on contact exchange so buyers at an open house can leave their details.

A café

Logo, "Riverside Coffee · Coffee and pastries", opening hours, a map button, a big "See our menu" button and a Google review link. It's a business card, so it can show up on Google.

A student at a career fair

Photo, "Noah Bennett · Computer science student", email, LinkedIn, GitHub and a "Download my résumé" link. The QR goes on a phone lock screen so recruiters can scan it in seconds.

(The names above are fictional examples.)

Extras that help

  • Contact exchange: let people leave their own details on your card. In Zolu they arrive as a contact with a follow-up task.
  • Email signature and video call background: Zolu creates both from your card, so every email and call shares it.
  • Two languages: if you work in English and Spanish, your card can show both.

How to update your card later

Edit it in Zolu and publish. Your link (zolu.me/your-name) and your QR code stay the same, so every printed sign and every NFC card keeps working. Read the full guide: digital business card: what it is and how to make one free.

FAQ

Should I put my phone number on my digital card?

Only if you want people to call or text you. You can show email or WhatsApp instead, and keep your phone private.

Three is a good number. More than five and people stop clicking.

Can I have a personal card and a business card?

Yes. The free plan includes one card of any type; paid plans include more.
